Heidi West

There are times in life where we find ourselves feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, and weighed down by
burdens that are too heavy to manage on our own. It can be hard to find time and space to address the
things that weigh on us in the midst of all that pulls at our time and attention. I consider it an honor and
privilege to create a space for my clients where together we can slow down and address the burdens in
their lives that are keeping them from thriving.

My desire is to journey alongside my clients and help
them move from a place of surviving to a place of thriving.
I take a client-centered approach, collaborating with my clients to prioritize what they want to focus on
in counseling. I work with children, adolescents, and adults. Some of my preferred approaches include
but are not limited to: Internal Family Systems and Narrative Therapy, as well as Art Therapy, Sand Tray
and Play Therapy, which are especially beneficial when engaging with children.

As a Follower of Jesus, I
welcome faith integration in counseling to whatever extent the client is comfortable with.

Experience

A bit about me: I grew up as a missionary kid/third culture kid in the Middle East from ages 9-18, and I
decided I wanted to become a counselor in part because of how counseling services had such a positive
impact on my family while we were living overseas.

During my graduate studies, I completed my
practicum and internship at Washburn Center for Children, where I worked with children ages 3-11 and
their parents.

When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my husband, connecting with friends and family,
visiting the library for more books to read, learning Spanish, cooking, film photography, and doing
outdoor activities including hiking, camping, kayaking, gardening, and visiting state parks around
Minnesota.

Education

I completed my BA at Bethel University, where I
majored in Biblical and Theological Studies and minored in Psychology. I completed my MA in Mental
Health Counseling through Asbury Theological Seminary.

Come to me, all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my
yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30
