My passion as a counselor is to bring hope and encouragement to each client facing life’s many challenges, hurts, disappointments and losses. After listening carefully to each client’s story and identifying their personal strengths and goals, then specific strategies, interventions and skills will be discussed along with how to implement these strategies/skills into daily living. As we work together, the goal is for clients to experience positive change their lives and achieve movement towards healing.
My commitment is to walk alongside clients in their struggles and teach them more adaptive ways to improving their lives. Research indicates that while techniques and strategies are important in the therapy process, more important is the relationship that is created between client and counselor which supports healing and change. It is my honor and privilege to witness client’s in their journey of healing and self discovery through the therapeutic process.
My approach is to integrate psychological concepts along with the client’s strengths and their specific goals into the therapeutic treatment plan I embrace a holistic approach in the treatment process. As a Christian counselor, I invite clients to consider God’s design for life which offers hope and deeper meaning to living but each client will determine if Christian principles fit into their own beliefs and values. I offer compassion and respect for each client and to their right for self determination.
My approach is based in the cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) model, along with brief psycho-dynamic and mindfulness in my work. I have over 25 years of experience in providing mental health care with children/adolescents, adults, couples and families. At this time, I am seeing adults and have a special interest in grief/loss and women’s issues.
My training includes: MA in Counseling Psychology from Bethel University and BA in Social Work from St Catherine’s College. I have advanced training in Grief/Loss Counseling and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TFCBT).
